Biography
Dr. Lee Nicholson is a product development and commercialization leader with 25 years of experience advancing complex technologies from research and prototype to real products, adoption, and scaled execution. He holds a Ph.D. in Materials Science and an M.Phil. in Physics from the University of Cambridge, UK. His career has included aerospace research at NASA Langley, program leadership at IBM Microelectronics, innovation and technology-transfer work at PepsiCo Global R&D, and senior leadership roles in MedTech ventures. Across those settings, he has worked through many of the same challenges early innovators face: technical ambiguity, competing priorities, stakeholder alignment, and the path from concept to commercialization. Lee has led 10 technology transfers and contributed to 5 industry-first commercializations. He co-invented and helped scale the world’s first 3D digital surgical loupes, later used in more than 1,800 surgeries, and helped deliver the first AI-enabled robotic stereoscopic 4K imaging systems into live surgical use. He is also an inventor on 27 issued U.S. patents, and his work has been recognized by IBM, PepsiCo, and Medical Device Network for innovation and execution. Through mentoring and guest lecturing, Lee helps innovators sharpen the problem, clarify user and buyer needs, and make more credible next-step decisions. He is known for practical, thoughtful guidance and for helping innovators turn bold ideas into breakthrough products.
